Rachael Brune and Trudie and Madeline Hodges of Stitch Custom Furnishings, along with the Brune clan of 3 pooches, Phoebe, Finn and Pauli, strode the catwalk (or should we say dogwalk) last week in support of Canine Companions for Independence in Haute Dog – a doggie fashion show. The show wrapped up Design San Francisco 2012 at the San Francisco Design Center. 63 dogs were in the show and surprisingly, given the number, it went off without a bitch, I mean hitch. Local celebrities Wilkes Bashford, Willie Brown and singer Paula West were in the audience or on the stage joining in the fun.

San Francisco, CA November 15, 2011: In an ongoing desire to support worthy causes in the design industry, Rachael Brune of Stitch Custom Furnishings in San Francisco, CA, collaborates this month with talented interior designer Kathleen Monroe of Kathleen Monroe Design on a table installation called “Neptune”. The table theme is inspired by the vital element – Water. The “Neptune” table is one of three tables being sponsored by Drinks by Design San Francisco. Shades of Green, a landscape architectural firm located in Sausalito, CA, will design the earth table, named “Terra”. Mondo Guerra, a season eight finalist on the popular television series, “Project Runway”, will design the fire table, named “ Phoenix”.

Designer Kathleen Monroe describes her inspiration and ideas for the “Neptune” table: “Given the aquatic theme, I have chosen fighting fish as the table symbol . . . . The fish represent grace, determination and, particularly, the fighting spirit, which, to me, is a great metaphor for people who are afflicted with AIDS. The fish are separate from one another (so they don’t fight), which represent the isolation, and separation (to avoid transmission) that AIDS presents us with. Each place setting at our dining table will have a fighting fish swimming in a large goblet adding movement, visual interest and a nod to the epidemic that inspires this event.”

Stitch Custom Furnishings is fabricating the tent, drapery and slipcovers out of sateen fabrics to depict the water motif with a particular highlight of seaweed spilling out of the back of each chair slipcover. This installation will be a not-to-miss at the event.

The festivities occur November 16 and 17 at the Galleria – San Francisco Design Center, 101 Henry Adams St. All details and ticket information are online at http://www.diffasf.org

About Stitch Custom Furnishings

San Francisco based Stitch Custom Furnishings was started by Rachael Brune out of her love for fabrics. With a keen eye for design from a successful career as a graphic designer, as well as a Bay Area homebuilder and homeowner several times over, she found an absence in the marketplace of quality window coverings and high end finishes available to homeowners outside the realm of architects and interior designers. Often the options came down to outdated curtain styles, cheap catalog solutions, mini blinds or shutters.

Established in 2002, Stitch provides the sophisticated homeowner with the quality and style of home furnishings seen in interior design magazines.

Stitch works with interior design firms and homeowners throughout the San Francisco Bay Area offering them showroom quality window treatments, soft furnishings, custom furniture and upholstery, hardware and small construction services.

Stitch’s work has been seen in Martha Stewart Living, California Home and Design, Domino Magazine, Domino -The Book of Decorating and The 2011 San Francisco Decorator Showcase.

Press Release

For Immediate Release

Stitch Custom Furnishings teams up with Kristina Wolf Design to provide design products and services that support Rooms That Rock 4 Chemo pro bono projects in San Francisco.

Stitch donates custom window covering to interior design project that creates soothing environments for patients receiving chemotherapy.

San Francisco, CA October 4, 2011: Rachael Brune of Stitch Custom Furnishings in San Francisco, CA, knows what a difference a soothing environment can have on one’s state of mind. When she heard about the newly formed not-for-profit Rooms The Rock 4 Chemo from Stitch client Kristina Wolf of Kristina Wolf Design, she knew right away this was a project she wanted to participate in. Rachael’s motivation for participating was the knowledge that medical treatment rooms can be cold and clinical and, that any support patients can receive in making a difficult experience less so, is a good thing. Stitch stepped in with a hand sewn, tailored roman shade that enhanced the design components of Kristina’s warm and comforting room design.

Because Stitch creates custom window coverings and uses fabrics and fixtures that hold up to daily use, an even more important feature in a commercial setting, that would be a key element in the selection of fabric and hardware for the window covering. Kristina’s beautifully serene room, with walls in a soothing blue with Koi swimming by, inspired the selection of a sea glass colored linen fabric for the shade.
